Ploughmen from across the Island, some of who have been competing for decades, took part in the IW Ploughing Match at Emmet Hill, Chale, on Saturday.

A total of 39 ploughmen, including novices as well, took part in the event.

The new champion was Reuben Abbot from Newport, with the reserve champion, Rob Richards of Wroxall.

The event was supported by many Island businesses through trade stands and sponsorship and was attended by a large number of spectators.

Organiser, Georgia Russell, said: “It was a great day and was really well supported. It was held in a huge field and there were lots of people about watching it all take place.”

Funds raised from the competition will be donated to the Hampshire & IW Air Ambulance.
