Cowes lifeboat has another qualified helm, Mat Randall, who has satisfied the last stage of the stringent requirements set by RNLI to command a lifeboat.
Mark Southwell, Cowes RNLI lIfeboat operations manager, said: “Mat brings us a wealth of maritime experience for such a young person.
“It covers extensive commercial afloat operations, previous service with Ryde inshore rescue and now a full range of everything anyone can encounter with the RNLI in the Solent.
“He joins and enhances an already very professional team of lifeboat helms.”
