Liz battles through in not-so-sunny Cyprus

Wight Tri member Liz Dunlop took part in the Paphos Logicom 10km Road Race, a huge event offering runs in several distances up to the marathon, normally run in hot and sunny conditions. However, Cyprus is having strange weather patterns and it was only 8 degrees with rain and hailstorms in the morning of the race. Warming up was difficult, with the race starting from Paphos Castle on an out and back course, with most runners clad in winter running gear.

Liz started steadily on the outward 5km leg and posted 25:35 at the turnaround, on target for a solid 10km time.

However as she headed back, she ran into a 30km headwind, with even stronger gusts, at times almost forcing her backwards. She then continued through a hail storm and a heavy rain storm for the last 3kms, and was relieved to reach the finish line to post a time of 54:13. She was happy with the result in such tough conditions and took 21st female overall position and 1st in the Vet 65-69 category.
