Island coronavirus cases up by 15 as 21 people discharged

There has been a sharp increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases on the Isle of Wight during the last 24 hours. The number has risen by 15, from 86 to 101.

There has also been one more coronavirus-related death on the Island, taking the overall total to 22..

As of today (Sunday), 21 people admitted to St Mary’s Hospital to have tested positive for COVID-19 have recovered and been discharged.

Alistair Flowerdew, Medical Director at Isle of Wight NHS Trust, said: “Sadly, we can confirm that a person being cared for at St Mary’s Hospital who had tested positive for coronavirus has died. The woman was in her 80s and had underlying health conditions.

“Her family has been informed and our thoughts and deepest condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”
