Five members of the Hovertravel team have raised more than £1,000 for Mountbatten Isle of Wight, after taking on a 100-metre (or 328ft) abseil down Portsmouth’s iconic Spinnaker Tower.
Pilot Brendan, engineer James, terminal supervisors, Gee and Poppy, and HR manager, Terri, took on the challenge on September 7, swapping their usual working environments for harnesses and ropes, to raise funds for the Island charity.
The team’s achievement is part of Hovertravel’s commitment to supporting the local community, and the important work of charities makes a difference to Islanders’ lives.
A spokesman said: “Hovertravel is incredibly proud of the team for taking on this challenge, and raising such a fantastic amount for a worthwhile cause. Mountbatten provides an invaluable service to people and families across the Isle of Wight, often at some of the most difficult times in their lives, and the team is delighted to have contributed towards its work.”
The team also had the opportunity to enjoy a unique perspective of Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent during their descent, with views of Hovertravel’s hovercraft operating between Southsea and Ryde.
