Historic Eldridges name disappears in merger

Andrew Bryan and Adam Jessup celebrate the merger

An historic Island business name is disappearing from the High Street, as Eldridges, which has provided legal services on the Isle of Wight for nearly two centuries, merges with Churchers, the Island’s largest firm of solicitors.

The merger formally took place on October 1, bringing Eldridges’ team and their clients under the Churchers umbrella. Churchers says the move strengthens its long‑term investment in the Island, adding further depth to the legal expertise available across its Newport, Ryde, Cowes, and Freshwater offices.

By combining two established legal teams, Churchers will expand its specialist knowledge while retaining the familiar faces who have served Island clients for generations. For Eldridges’ clients, the merger offers continuity with the added benefit of access to a wider range of legal services and resources.

Managing partner, Andrew Bryan, said the firms share the same philosophy of providing professional, accessible legal support. “The merger marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter,” he said. “Churchers will continue to invest in its Isle of Wight presence, ensuring individuals, families, and businesses can access comprehensive legal support from a firm with a strong understanding of the local community, now bolstered by the experience of our Eldridges colleagues.”

Adam Jessup, partner at Eldridges and now Churchers, said the firm is proud of its long Island history. “Joining forces with Churchers enables us to continue supporting our valued clients, with access to a wider range of legal services, while maintaining the dedication and expertise they expect.”
