Girlguiding members, including Trefoil members, across the Island have raised more than £800 organising and running coffee mornings and evenings in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
These well-established events to support Macmillan are run across the country and a number of charities and other organisations on the Island take part every year. Monies raised supports Macmillan to carry out their work in many ways.
The 1st Carisbrooke (Princess Beatrice Own) Guides raised over £250 for Macmillan with the guides and their families’ baking cakes and other refreshments to accompany the coffee. In addition, the guides organised and ran games and competitions to entertain the guests.
Linda Stone, leader of Carisbrooke guides, said, after the coffee morning: “Well done and thank you to everyone who helped us raise £250.74 for Macmillan Cancer Support from our cake and refreshment sales. In addition, we raised £64.18 for guide funds from the games and competitions.“
In Newport, 11th Newport Guides, at their evening event, also entertained guests and there was a great selection of food to accompany the drinks. They raised £212.63.
Meanwhile, in the Bay Area, Shanklin and Sandown Trefoil Guilds, raised £400 for the charity.
