Funds raised for young family left without a dad

Friends of father of three, Sam Willis, who died unexpectedly last week are fundraising to help the Neuroscience Department of Southampton General Hospital and to help support his young family.

Thirty-four-year-old Sam went to hospital last Monday with an ear infection but died two days later because the infection had spread to the bone behind his ear, a condition called mastoiditis, which then turned into meningitis.

Sam, a quality technician at Vesta, leaves behind his partner of 17 years, Rochelle, Reuben (9), Marley (6) and Ezra (4).

Friend of the family, Kay Gayle said on Facebook: “We are all in utter shock and disbelief.

“I thought I’d start a little Go Fund Me page as I know after speaking to Rochelle and Sam’s family they’d like donations made towards the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit in Southampton General Hospital.

“I also thought the money could be split two ways: between the department and Roch, to help support her in easing any financial worries she may have, and to provide money which could be used to give the boys fun days out when they’re finding times tough or to put aside for them for the future.”

The fundraising currently stands at over ÂŁ10,000 against an initial target of ÂŁ2,500. You can donate at iow.life/samwillis.
