With the Island’s sporting programme decimated by storm Bert, Shanklin’s match at Vectis was abandoned when keeper, Lawrence Chick, broke his leg. His team-mates wish him a speedy recovery.
Island Divisions One and Two
Osborne Coburg beat Brading 3-0 in Division One. After a goal-less first half, Osborne’s Carl Phillipson scored following a defensive mix-up.
Charlie Barnes added a second with 10 minutes left, and Harry Green’s solo effort guaranteed the points for Coburg, who move to sixth spot.
In Division Two, second-placed East Cowes Sports won 2-1 at home to Niton, with goals from Macauley Barnes and Josh Richardson.
Newchurch, appropriately playing at Watery Lane, won 9-1 at home to Seaview, with 4 goals from stalwart Keith Rust, 2 from Ciaran Gibson, and 1 apiece from Charlie Stewart, Pat Haxell and Joe Books.
Combination One and Two
Combination One’s Osborne Coburg Res narrowly won 6-5 away at Binstead COB Res, with a hat-trick for Connor Coburn, and goals for Luke Stone and Ben Ballard.
In Combination Two, volunteers worked all morning to ensure leaders, Niton, could play their home derby with Ventnor A, and will be disappointed to lose 7-1. Asa Gough, Harley and Jason Kennett, and George Creighton were on target for the visitors, and the consolation strike came from Ryan McDowall.
Midweek results
In the Gold Cup, Cowes came from a goal behind to beat West Wight 5-1 at Westwood Park. Josh Daley scored for the visitors after 20 minutes, and George Carter-Knight levelled before half time. After the break, Ryan Oatley, Jimmy Mumford, George Carter-Knight and Jez Conway secured Cowes’ spot in the semi-finals.
Fixtures
Wessex sides return to action after postponed fixtures. Cowes travel to Hamworthy Recreation in the Premier Division, with Vics at Frimley Green and Newport at Fleetlands in Division One.
On the Island, Division One sees Bembridge home to Northwood, Brading face Shanklin, Cowes Res entertain West Wight, Osborne Coburg host leaders, Whitecroft & Barton, and Vectis entertain Binstead COB. In Division Two, East Cowes Sports are home to Newport Res, Newchurch welcome Ryde Saints, and Niton play Seaview.
In Combination One, Shanklin Res welcome Bembridge Res. In Combination Two, Sandown & Lake Res face Niton Res, Vectis Res are home to Ryde Saints Res, and West Wight A entertain Ventnor A.
In the Junior A Cup, West Wight Res are home to High Park Res, W&B Res entertain Sandown & Lake Res, and High Park host Brading Res.
Shanklin Ladies start December with a trip to Rushmoor Community in Division One, and Wight Eagles have a week’s break before facing Winchester City Flyers.
