Life was much simpler in the ’40s. People knew their neighbours and looked out for them; families were frugal and ‘made do’, not because it was green, but due to rationing, and they sang along to hits such as We’ll Meet Again by Vera Lynn – she wasn’t a dame then!
If you’d like to find out more about the decade when Winston Churchill first became Prime Minister and was dominated by World War II and its aftermath, then why not join the Vectis ’40s Vintage group at Calbourne Mill on the weekend of August 7/8. From 10am to 5pm on both days you can immerse yourself in the food, fashion, dance and music of the time, meet the re-enactors, view vintage cars, trucks and steam engines and enjoy a range of stalls, food and a raffle.
The event will be raising funds for Shanklin Theatre, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance and Friends of the Animals.
