Wessex wins with victorious Ventnor in this week’s football

There were Wessex wins for Cowes, East Cowes Vics and Newport. Sam Cant can’t stop scoring ‘four’ Whitecroft & Barton, and there were five for Niton’s Tony Potts; vibrant Ventnor were victorious at Osborne, and there was a well-worked win for Shanklin Ladies in Hants Division One.

Island League and cups

Division One leaders, Ventnor, won 3-0 away at Osborne Coburg, thanks to goals from Emerson Tattersall, Liam Harper and Jack Barsdell. Vectis won 4-1 away at Binstead COB, with an opener from Ben Cutts, then goals from Keiron Sibbick, Josef Shaw and Aaron Shepherd.

In Division Two, Newchurch beat Pan Community 4-2, with goals from veteran striker, Keith Rust, Robert Ball, Aaron Doncaster, and Ciaran Gibson, securing their first win of the season. Pan’s Adam Drysdale and Kayton Evans scored Pan’s consolation goals.

In the Challenge Cup, goals from Dan Field and sub, Finlay Lloyd, helped Shanklin win 2-1 at home to a battling Brading side, who scored a late consolation goal at the County Ground.

West Wight won 4-2 away at Bembridge, with first-half goals from Josh Daley and Gareth Bricknell, and two second-half strikes from sub, Zak Harris. Both Bembridge goals were scored by Aiden White.

In the Hants Saturday Trophy, four goals from Sam Cant saw W&B win 4-2 away at Northwood, who scored through Lewis Blackmore and George Holmes. Cowes Sports were awarded an away win.

W&B Res lost 2-1 at home to Porchester Rovers in the Hampshire Vase, with Luke Bennett netting the consolation goal. West Wight Res won 6-5 on penalties at home to Niton, after drawing 4-4; West Wight goals came from Dan Burgess, Connal Groom, George Saunders and Robbie Shepherd, while Niton’s goals came from the “4Js” of Jake Cass, Jared Cousins, Jordan Fowkes and Josh Edgerton. Sandown & Lake Reserves won 6-2 at home to a solid, strengthened Seaview side in the Junior A Cup, with 2 goals from Connor Gudgin, and 1 apiece for Shay Dixon, Aaron Burford, Jarred Brodie and sub, Dan Worboyes. Stoic Seaview’s first-half goals came from Brandon Smith and Neil Badham.

Goals from Elliot Apter (2), Nick Gregory, Rich Scott, Alex Boirand, Shay Pattrick and Alfie Donovan saw visitors, Brading Res, beat Newport Res 7-2 in the Junior A, with consolation goals from Lennon Shepherd and Rubin Etheridge. Tayler Holmes’ goal was enough for East Cowes Sports Res to win 1-0 at High Park Res and reach the next round.

Combination Leagues

In Combination One, 2nd-placed Binstead COB Res won 2-1 away at High Park Res. Bembridge Res missed a penalty to win 3-1 away at East Cowes Sports Res, with Frank Jones scoring the consolation goal. Northwood Res won 3-2 away at Ventnor Res, with goals from Arthur Balchin, Harry Collier and Kian Mooney.

In Combination Two, Sandown & Lake A won 3-2 away at Ryde Saints, with first-half goals from Jared Jones and James Ashley’s penalty, with sub, Ryan Worboyes, getting the second-half winner. Sandown saw Josef Stratton, Simon Spragg and Harrison Chapman yellow-carded. Five goals from Tony Potts helped 3rd-placed Niton Res win 10-0 away at High Park A, with 2 more from Ollie McLoughlin, and 1 apiece from Ryan McDowall and Adam Reuben.

Wessex League

Cowes came from a goal down to win 2-1 at home to Blackfield & Langley, with a Jez Conway header and Ryan Oatley winner in the second half. Vics won 2-1 away at Fawley, trailing 1-0 at the break. Goals from Josh Neale and Sam Kirby secured the win, and the top spot in Division One. Newport completed a triple triumph winning 3-0 at home to Verwood Town, with goals from a Jordan Browne header, and second-half goals from Macauley Watterson and Joe Butcher.

Women’s Football

After a goal-less first half, unbeaten Shanklin Ladies won 3-2 away at Gosport Borough Youth, with 2 goals from Thea Broadhead and 1 from Rosie Willis in the second half. Wight Eagles narrowly lost away at Gosport Falcon Youth, with the final score being 1-0. Six of their players are just 16-years-old.

Fixtures

Tomorrow (Saturday) sees Cowes, in search of a new manager, away to Christchurch. East Cowes Vics are home to Alresford Town and Newport away at Frimley Green.

On the Island, in the Challenge Cup, Whitecroft & Barton welcome Binstead COB, with Northwood home to Osborne Coburg in the Gold Cup. Northwood Res face W&B Res in the Junior A cup.

In Division One, Cowes Res welcome Shanklin, and Brading entertain Vectis. Division Two sees Newport Res home to East Cowes Sports, Oakfield welcome High Park, Ryde Saints host Pan Community, and Sandown & Lake face Seaview.

In Combination One, Bembridge Res are home to Brading Res, Binstead COB host ECS Res, Shanklin Res entertain Osborne Coburg Res, with Ventnor Res home to Sandown & Lake Res. In Combination 2, Niton Res are home to Newchurch Res, Osborne Coburg A face Bembridge A, Ventnor A entertain Vectis Res and West Wight A hosting Sandown & Lake A.

On Sunday, Shanklin Ladies travel to Millbrook, with Wight Eagles resting for a week.
