When fifteen members of Vectis 40 Vintage gathered at The Dairyman’s Daughter in Arreton for a pre-Christmas lunch, cheque presentations to Island charities were on the menu.
Following a members’ vote, the proceeds of the group’s fund-raising efforts were distributed to three Island-based charities.
IW Defibrillators received £600 to purchase an external single-use defibrillator. Member Steve Read explained that it was the 102nd device since 2020 to be secured for use on the Island.
The IW Motor Neurone Association were awarded £500, to help in the fight against MND. Linda Griffiths, whose husband died from the disease in 2006, attended with her daughter Alison, to receive the cheque. Linda said that her husband had been helped by the charity and before MND had overcome him, aged 57, he had undertaken long-distance walks to raise funds.
Wildheart Animal Sanctuary benefited to the tune of £200, with their representative, Christine Harty, accepting the donation on the charity’s behalf. She said that the sanctuary housed a variety of species including four rescued Tigers – all female. Two of these arrived in May this year and have now settled in well. There are now 102 rescued animals/birds at the site in Sandown including four lions.
All charity representatives thanked Vectis 40 Vintage for the donations, with the money raised to be used on the Island.
