Travel agent Emma wins industry award

Store manager for Barrhead Travel in Newport, Emma Ram, was named as the UK Travel Industry’s ‘Unsung Hero’ at Travel Weekly’s annual Globe Awards last month.

The ceremony was attended by over 1,300 industry professionals in London’s Grosvenor House, where Emma was presented with the coveted award for to her unwavering commitment to colleagues and customers during the pandemic, whilst also overcoming personal challenges.

After joining Barrhead Travel in 2019 to launch the Isle of Wight branch, Emma worked tirelessly during the Covid pandemic to support customers whose holiday plans had been impacted. She has become a well-known figure in the community by leading various charity fund-raisers, and her clients have praised her for going above and beyond when planning or rescheduling holidays.

Emma said: “I feel really overwhelmed to win such a prominent award. It has been an incredibly tough few years for everyone in travel, so it’s even more heartening to be individually recognised by my peers across the industry.

“Winning this award extends beyond individual recognition; my team on the Isle of Wight are my rocks and we have supported one another unconditionally during the pandemic. Community is everything to us and it’s rewarding to feel that we’re contributing to the recovery of the local high street.”

Emma’s next charity fund-raiser is to Walk the Wight with her team in May. Donations can be made at justgiving.com/fundraising/emma-ram1.
