A replica of a 17th century Spanish galleon, the Galeon Andalucia, docked on Trinity Landing, Cowes, on Monday and will stay until the end of Sunday.
The impressive ship features five decks and three masts, clocking in at 164ft (50 metres) in length, and will be open to visitors between 10am-8pm.
The Galeon Andalucia is modelled on ships which sailed Spanish international commercial routes, and doubles as a museum and an events space. She also serves as a training ship for Spanish youngsters. Originally a galleon would have had a crew of around 150 men – so sailing her with 30 novices is quite a challenge.
On Tuesday, a welcoming reception for local dignitaries, included a presentation of a copy of the Isle of Wight Armada Coast, by local author and historian, David Baldwin, to the ship’s captain, Miguel Cuesta. A tour of the ship followed.
Tickets: £12, adults; £6 for children aged 5-10; £30 for families (two adults and up to three children aged 5-10). Under fives go free.
