Ryde’s Appley Day celebration is set to return on Sunday, transforming Appley Park and Beach into a hub of community activity from 11am to 3pm.
Residents are encouraged to pack a picnic and head down for a day celebrating the area’s beautiful green space.
The event, hosted by Friends of Appley and supported by Ryde Town Council, offers something for everyone. The historic Appley Tower will be a central feature, with guided tours running at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm. Tickets for the limited tours are £5, with all proceeds going towards the Tower’s upkeep.
Directly in front of the tower, High Sheriff, Jacque Gazzard, will judge a lively sandcastle competition at 1.30pm.
Action-packed highlights include free paddleboard sessions from Ryde Town Council, adventurous £10 tree climbs with Goodleaf Tree Climbing, and a silent disco hosted by Groove IOW. Ryde Rowing Club is also holding an open day featuring a rowing machine challenge and a book nook.
Youngsters can enjoy big bubbles, outdoor games from the Sea Scouts, and woodland crafts. Wildlife enthusiasts can meet groups like the Isle of Wight Hedgehogs and join guided walks, including a dusk bat walk later in the day.
Abi Fox, from Friends of Appley, summed up the excitement: “Every day’s a beautiful day in Appley Park, but it’s even better when our community comes together to celebrate our much-loved green space.”
