More than 300 exhibits were on display at the Niton and Whitwell Horticultural Society (NWHS) Summer Show at Niton Village Hall on Saturday.

Despite stormy weather across the Island, organisers were pleased many people made the effort to attend, while judges were complimentary about the quality and standard of exhibits, despite recent bad weather.

James Kingswell took the main horticultural trophies, including the Martin Dyer and Godfrey Baring Cups which have been awarded for more than 100 years for the finest vegetable and flower exhibits.

Sam Twining won the Anthony Biddlecombe Memorial Salver and the Dockrill Perpetual Cup with his fruit entries.

The Society Rose Bowl for the most points in the cookery classes was won by Claire Critchison. In the handicraft section, a felt-needled dormouse was much admired and won Diana Turner the Handicraft Trophy.

In the children’s classes, Maisie Walker Green led with most points to win the Ogilvie Forbes Vase while her mother, Katie, shared top honours in Photography with Society Chairman Trevor Hooley.

Viv Langford won the Whitwell Memorial Cup for the most points awarded to a new member across the Classes.

There was also a ‘behind the scenes’ presentation to Sue Fox who after many years is retiring as a judge this year.
