Hovertravel has agreed to help isle of Wight underwear boutique, Sugar & Spice with their charitable collection of bras by transporting the bras for free to Southsea.
Sheila Wilson, owner of Sugar & Spice, explains: “We have collected old bras for recycling from our customers for several years, sending them to Africa and generating funds for the Against Breast Cancer charity. Unfortunately, the textiles company we use could no longer collect from the Isle of Wight, so I needed to find a way to get the bras to Portsmouth.
I contacted Hovertravel and they have been very helpful and offered to transport my six bin bags every 2 months for free. The charity is doing such important work in the fight against breast cancer I really wanted to keep doing my part to help them and now Hovertravel has helped me.”
Against Breast Cancer is dedicated to funding ground-breaking research to improve the detection, treatment and increase survival after breast cancer diagnosis. Their bra recycling scheme takes your unwanted or unloved bras and through our network of bra banks raises vital funds for pioneering breast cancer research. The same bras also help to support small businesses in Africa. Together with their recycling partners, their textile recovery project prevents these bras going into landfill before giving them a new lease of life in developing countries such as Togo, Ghana and Kenya, where bras remain too expensive to produce locally. For every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund research.
