Help support riding sessions for disabled and disadvantaged kids

The Wight Horse Community Interest Company is a not-for-profit organisation aiming to make horse riding accessible for all. They provide subsidised and often free riding, training clinics and stable management classes for children who otherwise would not be able to take part in the activities.

With the support of the island community and the WightAid Foundation WightHorse has already funded specialised riding equipment for the Riding for the Disabled Association for use in their base at the Island Riding Centre in Newport. A mobile hoist for the Changing Places toilet at the Centre has also been funded. It is hoped that the next purchase will be a ‘para-rider hoist’, capable of lifting a wheelchair user from their chair onto a horse.

Additional funds raised will benefit people suffering from autism, dementia and mental heath issues and help to expand what they offer school excluded children and working with the local police to support young offenders by providing weekly riding and stable management sessions.

Winston Churchill famously said: “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.” They are the only Island based organisation in the Wave 105 sports challenge and are asking for further support from the Island community.
