The Falconry Experience at the Isle of Wight Steam Railway, now known as the Haven Falconry, has started a Crowdfunder Page to help the centre relocate to new premises.
The centre, based at the railway since 2016, has faced ongoing financial difficulties as its lease approaches its end. The new premises are to be announced shortly.
The seasonal closures of the railway greatly impact its income, leaving it unable to sustain the centre despite its year-round expenses.
Launching the page, Charlotte Bell who runs the centre with Sam White, said: “Following a severe financial setback in January, discussions about relocating our beloved birds revealed that many could end up in rescue centres, depriving them of their freedom and natural behaviours.
“We are determined to avoid this heartbreaking outcome, so the team has opted to remain open on a day-to-day basis, hoping for a turn in fortune.
“The positive development of a new, generous lease on the Island offers a glimmer of hope for the falconry centre, but financial constraints hinder our ability to move.
“We are seeking urgent assistance to fund the relocation process. Relocating the falconry centre involves significant logistical challenges, including the disassembly and reconstruction of 30 enclosures and outbuildings, many of which are not suitable for transport.
“We urgently require manpower, trucks, lorries, and materials like wood, gravel, and sand, all of which come with a substantial financial burden .
“Community support in terms of volunteer labour, equipment, or donations of materials would be invaluable in ensuring a successful move and maintaining the well-being of our birds.”
