Groovy night at Dimbola as ‘Jimi and Friends’ play

A taste of the swinging sixties is set to return to Freshwater, with Dimbola Museum & Galleries hosting a special “Jimi and Friends” night celebrating the music and legacy of the 1969 and 1970 IW Festivals.

The event, taking place tomorrow (Saturday), will feature Big Red and the Cava Boys as headliners, joined by guest musician Dick Taylor, founding member of The Pretty Things and the original bassist for The Rolling Stones. Together, the performers will bring to life the sounds of Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez and other defining artists of the era.

Organisers say the event offers an opportunity to step back into the atmosphere of the original festivals, celebrated for their energy, idealism, and place in counter-culture.

Executive chairman, Dr Brian Hinton, said it promises to be “a groovy evening full of energy, nostalgia and incredible musicianship.”

Tickets cost £10, and are available from Dimbola Museum & Galleries on 756814. Guests are invited to embrace the era and dress in loons, bell bottoms, cheesecloth, and love beads. Proceeds will support next June’s Jimi Hendrix exhibition.
