The sun shone and large crowds flocked to the Garlic Festival last weekend – and they made sure they enjoyed themselves.
As Islanders and visitors revelled in the distinctive aroma of garlic that filled the air, they took advantage of everything on offer.
The much-anticipated annual event offered a myriad of activities and attractions, ensuring there was something for everyone to enjoy.
Everyone was treated to great music that set a lively atmosphere throughout the festival grounds. Youngsters were particularly thrilled by regular appearances from Titan the Robot and Bluey, as well as the captivating performances by Jellyfish Theatre on their Dragon Wagon stage. For those interested in the culinary arts, the Theatre Kitchen hosted expert talks, providing valuable insights and tips from knowledgeable chefs and producers.
One of the standout features of the festival was, as always, the variety of delicious food available. While garlic-themed dishes took centre stage, there were plenty of other culinary delights to satisfy all palates. From street food to gourmet creations, the festival was a gastronomic paradise. In addition to the food, visitors had the opportunity to shop from a wide array of local producers, crafters, and artists, making it a fantastic place to discover unique and high-quality goods.

The festive spirit was enhanced by a series of engaging shows and displays. The dog agility show captivated animal lovers, while the bike stunt team amazed the audience with their daring tricks and manoeuvres. David Holmes, the festival organiser (the IW Observer’s Holmsey columnist), expressed his delight at the event’s success. He said: “It’s always amazing to see so many people and having fun. The weather gods were smiling on us, and it makes all the hard work by so many people seem worth it. Thank you to my brilliant team and everyone who helps, the entertainers and traders – but most of all to everyone who came along over the weekend.”
The 2024 Isle of Wight Garlic Festival was a brilliant celebration of local culture, food, and entertainment, leaving everybody looking forward to next year’s event.
