Fishing boat is towed to safety

A Cowes RNLI lifeboat was called out following fears that a broken-down fishing boat could drift into a Solent shipping lane.

The 20ft fishing boat, with a man and woman on board, suffered engine failure south of Bramble Bank while apparently on passage from Southampton to East Cowes. With a north-easterly Force 5 to 6 blowing at the time, Cowes lifeboat raced through the choppy seas after launching.

A member of the lifeboat’s crew was put aboard the fishing boat, which was then towed to East Cowes Marina, where it was met by coastguards from Bembridge.
