Aspire launches new Build a Band project

Aspire creative hub has launched Build a Band, a weekly music project in Shanklin for young people who want to learn how to form, rehearse, and perform in a real band. The sessions take place every Wednesday, from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, at Furzehill Road, Shanklin.

Members have access to professional music equipment including drums, guitars, keyboards, microphones, recording facilities, and rehearsal rooms. Each session is led by Aspire’s music team, who mentor young musicians through band-building, song-writing, team work, and preparing for live performances when the group is ready.

Aspire music lead, Meme Cullen, said young people need spaces where their creativity and confidence can grow. She said the hub offers a place to learn what it is like to be in a band, with professional tutors supporting them at each stage to build skills, confidence and self-esteem, and to make new friends.

Build a Band is open to all young people who are interested in music, with no experience required. Participants can explore different instruments, collaborate with others, and work towards performing live as a band.
