Primary school football finals have better weather

Carisbrooke's U-11 girls’ football team who beat The Bay

After a long, competitive season, the 2nd round of IW Primary Schools’ football finals took place in improved weather at the end of March and start of April at Cowes Enterprise College.

In the U-9 Girls’ League final, a strong performance from Carisbrooke saw them defeat The Bay 3-0 after a hat-trick from Ella Harding. The U-11 Boys’ Rural Cup final saw Northwood take on Shalfleet, who had been narrowly beaten by Nettlestone in the first round of finals, finishing 1-1. A penalty shoot-out saw a fine save from Northwood’s goal-keeper, winning them the shoot-out and the trophy. Another tight final took place in the U-9 Boys’ League when The Bay faced Carisbrooke. A fantastic strike from distance from Logan Woodford gave The Bay the lead in the first half. In the second half Carisbrooke hit the post, but The Bay’s defence held out for a tight 1-0 victory. Haylands completed a 3-1 win over Gurnard in the U-10 Boys’ League final, with Kayden Chesters, Clark Keegan and Denny Newsham scoring for Haylands.

Godshill and Bembridge faced off in the U-11 Girls’ Rural League final. Bembridge, undefeated this season, made a strong start before Godshill took the lead through Daisy Taylor, which they took through to secure a 1-0 win. There was further success for The Bay Primary in the U-11 Boys’ League, as they defeated Binstead 4-1 including a hat-trick from Kian Merrett. Binstead’s goal-scorer was Ronnie Bull. This victory meant that the team from The Bay have completed a clean sweep of six league and cup victories out of six over the last three seasons. In the final fixture, The Bay played Carisbrooke in the U-11 Girls’ League final. In a cagey game, with defences coming out on top, a goal for Carisbrooke, scored by Matilda Garnham, won the trophy.
