Red Funnel has responded to the article in the IW Observer on June 21, which highlighted its customers being forced to pay fines for overstaying whenever the Red Jet was late at its Cowes Terminal for five minutes or more.
A Red Funnel spkesperson said: “Red Funnel is aware that some of its customers may have received unjustified car parking fines when using the Fountain Yard car park in West Cowes from January 1, 2019, to the end of April 2019.
“We are taking this matter very seriously, and we are extremely disappointed to hear that our customers have been fined for car parking within the allotted free time allowance at Fountain Yard, operated by RingGo.
“We have been in discussion with RingGo, who sub-contract the enforcement to Premier Park, and while we can confirm there is a 15-minute free parking allowance, we have reason to believe that Premier Park has not been adhering to the allowed additional 10-minute grace period in some instances.
“We wish to stress that Red Funnel does not receive any revenue from the parking fines at its terminals, and we apologise to our customers that have been affected. We are taking measures to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.”
