There’s a month left for Islanders to give their views on plans for a new combined fire authority for the Isle of Wight and Hampshire.

Feedback will help the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service to decide whether to apply to form the new organisation, which also takes in Portsmouth and Southampton.

The Island’s fire service already works closely with Hampshire, sharing a control room, vehicle maintenance, policy support, training and health and safety teams.

The proposal does not affect frontline services.

Councillor Tig Outlaw (Lake Noer, cabinet member for public protection, said: “This consultation is all about achieving what is best for our Island community, ensuring the future strength of the service and the safety of our residents.”

The consultation deadline is 26 October and people can respond online at www.hantsfire.gov.uk/consultation or by email hfrsconsultation@hantsfire.gov.uk.

The final decision on any merger will rest with the Home Secretary.
