Isle of Wight Council could lose one councillor under new boundary plans.
A draft recommendation, released by the Local Government Commission on Tuesday (September 4), proposes 39 councillors for the Island – there are currently 40.
Two councillors would cover a newly created Ventnor and Wroxall ward if the changes are approved.
A spokesman for the commission said: “We are asking local people and organisations to comment on our draft recommendations for new division boundaries across Isle of Wight.
“We have an open mind about further suggestions from local people to change and improve these recommendations. We will consider all the submissions we receive whoever they are from and whether your evidence applies to the whole of Isle of Wight or just a part of the area.”
An Isle of Wight Council spokesman said: “We have received the consultation and will be considering the implications in more detail before making any further comment.”
Any decision made on the boundary changes would come into effect in May, 2021 after a finalised plan is presented to government in January, 2019.
A 10 week consultation on the changes runs until November 12 – you can see the plans and make comments on the website here.
