Two cardboard signs have appeared in Northwood highlighting a plan to build homes.

The signs read “plans for 66 houses here” with an arrow pointing to a field has popped up on Newport Road.

The signs are on the both sides of the road from the Northwood sign. It can be seen as you are travelling either way from Cowes town centre to Newport.

A planning application for 66 homes comprised of two, three and four bedroom detached and semi-detached houses, and two bedroom flats and bungalows, situated on land off to the rear of 391 Newport Road was publicised by Isle of Wight Council (IWC) on August 3.

There are two listed objections to the plans on the planning section of IWC’s website as of Monday (August 6).

They mention a strain on public services and traffic issues if the plans were to go ahead.

The proposal for the development reads: “Outline application for up to a maximum 66 dwellings with associated roads, parking and open space with access only off Newport Road.”

The site is currently used as a pasture for sheep.

A spokesman for the developer, Harding Holdings, said: “Harding Holdings is a mainland company developer with a strong presence on the Island and a significant investment in the Island on a long term basis.

“With one main board director living and based on IOW for many years .

“Harding Holdings has a good appetite for further investment based upon both employment and family living accommodation.”

Comments on this Application must be received by close of business on August 24, you can submit comments on the council’s website here
