Cabaret performer and actor Danny Beard has given Pride festival goers advice after alleged theft reported using dating app.
The Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist urged hook up app users to “stay safe” and meet in busy public locations ahead of Saturday’s (July 21) Pride event in Ryde.
The gay dating app, Grindr is allegedly being used to meet up with Island visitors before money is taken from them.
Hampshire Constabulary are unable to confirm the incidents as no specific time, date or location information has been released about the alleged thefts.
IW Pride said in a Facebook post: “Some of the younger population on the Island are using Grindr to target people.
“They are attempting to meet up with people and then taking money from them once they meet them in a remote location.
“This has been reported to the police.
“Please stay safe this weekend – let friends know where you are. If you are meeting someone you do not know, let your friends know and try to meet in a busy public place.”
Danny said: “When using any hook up app it’s always important to stay safe. Never meet anyone in a remote, secluded location, get a telephone number, and address and always tell a friend where you are going. If you are in an unfamiliar area or on holiday always try and meet in a public location like a bar or restaurant first.”
The performer takes to the main stage at Isle of Wight Pride ahead of Gok Wan and Conchita at 6.30pm.
